Almost two weeks ago, we came together to pay tribute to ten years of the Leonard Education Organization (LE.O).

Board members, host families, students, donors, and potential supporters gathered together to share an evening of connection. The event was designed as an opportunity for guests to hear directly from LE.O community, to learn about their journeys, challenges, and dreams.

Students represented every country where LE.O serves, from Lebanon, Jordan, Gaza, and the West Bank, each bringing their own story and perspective. Around the room, screens displayed photos from student activities and a special video created by LE.O students around the world, reminding everyone just how far this community extends.

A Legacy That Reaches Back 70 Years

One of the most meaningful moments of the night came when we revisited the story of how LE.O began. Although the organization is marking its tenth anniversary, its roots reach much further, back seventy years, to the meeting of Dr. Graham Leonard and Sheikh Abu Abdullah Shami. Their friendship and shared belief in the power of education planted the seeds of what would one day become LE.O. What began as a collaboration between two educators has now become their family legacies and has grown into a global community carrying that same spirit forward.
Looking Ahead
Today, LE.O supports nearly 400 students at around 80 institutions in 20 countries, guiding them to scholarships and opportunities worth over $14 million. Behind every student is a unique story of resilience, sumud (steadfastness), and the determination to build a better future.
Moments of Joy and Connection
The evening ended with a lively, student-led dabke that quickly drew in guests from every corner of the room. The next morning, LE.O students gathered at Deya’s home to reflect, share advice, and strengthen the bonds that keep this community so close.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who made the effort to join us, traveling from across the country and around the world. And to those who were with us in spirit, you were missed.
Your presence, support, and belief in this mission remind us that LE.O’s work is not just about education, but about connection, legacy, hope and community.
